Rukia Kuchiki (Japanese: 朽木 ルキア, Kuchiki Rukia) is a character in the anime and manga Bleach created by Tite Kubo. Rukia is a Shinigami ("guide of souls"), a fighter from the afterlife who patrols the earthly world and protects people from evil spirits ("hollows"). She is a member of the 13th combat unit of the Gotei 13, and is under the command of Captain Jushiro Ukitake. After meeting the protagonist of Bleach, Ichigo Kurosaki, she is forced by a number of circumstances to transfer some of her supernatural power to him, which temporarily disables her from fighting and forces her to ask Ichigo for help in the fight against the Hollows.
