After World War II, Vietnam had been divided in two by a conflict with France.

Vietnam had been divided by the United Kingdom, the United States, China and the USSR into two, South and North Vietnam.

The USA kept South Vietnam, the USSR and China kept North Vietnam.

Vietnam was divided because of the US fear that Vietnam would become communist like the USSR and China, and its intention was to turn all of Vietnam into a capitalist country. Therefore, the USSR and China trained North Vietnam very hard. Both of them seemed to be parents to it.*
