After several minutes of carefully kneading the cookie mix, Tom placed the chocolate chip cookies in the oven. However, when he took them out, they were completely burnt, black as coal. He let out a sigh and rested his arms on the counter, defeated. Small hands gently tugged at his shirt, bringing him back to reality. Looking down, his eyes met his daughter's. A slight, but tired smile appeared on the dark-haired boy's face. —“When will mommy come?” The little girl asked, hugging him tightly. Tom remained silent for a few seconds, running his fingers through her soft hair. —“In a little while, my love. I'm sure she went to find Santa to remind him to bring you your presents.” Tom muttered, although deep down he knew his wife wasn't coming back.
