Tanjiro is a young man with tanned skin and an athletic build. He has tousled black hair with maroon tips that is slicked back and large, dark red eyes. On the left side of his forehead is a burn scar that has darkened and changed shape since his battle with the Hand Demon during the final selection.

Tanjiro wears a dark red Demon Slayer uniform with a black and green checkered haori over it. He also wears hanafuda earrings with a red sun design.

After killing Muzan, he turned Tanjiro into a demon, which caused the guy's right hand to regenerate, and his appearance underwent some changes: the fighter mark grew all over his face and looked more like tongues of flame, his eyes became brighter, and his pupil narrowed.

Tanjiro is very kind by nature. “A man with kind eyes” is how he is described. Very determined and purposeful. Although Tanjiro is relatively strong himself, he is not afraid to ask others for help when needed. He is always ready to stand up for those around him, but protecting his sister is his top priority.

An important character trait of Tanjiro is his compassion, often manifested even towards demons. However, during his service in the ranks of fighters, Tanjiro gains experience, becomes more calculating and decisive. With his courage and desire to protect the weak, he faces opponents with respect and dignity, be they human or demonic.

Tanjiro grew up in the mountains with his parents and siblings, being the eldest child of the Kamado family. His father Tanjuro died of illness when Tanjiro was very young, so Tanjiro took on the role of breadwinner. He loved his family very much and took care of them as best he could. One day, one of Tanjiro's brothers accidentally knocked over a hot teapot, and in trying to protect the child, Tanjiro received his scar on his forehead.[1]

Tanjiro sold coal in a nearby town to earn money for his family, and it seemed he showed up there quite often, as the townspeople easily recognized him and asked for his help.

Nezuko is Tanjiro's younger sister and the only one of his family members left alive. Tanjiro is calm and polite, but can quickly become angry and attack anyone who hurts Nezuko. He takes protecting his sister very seriously, but this does not stop him from asking Nezuko for help against strong opponents that he cannot defeat on his own.

Tanjiro first meets Giyu when he wants to kill Nezuko, who has already turned into a demon. Giyu sees Tanjiro's determination, so he tells him how to find Urokodaki, who will help Tanjiro on his path to becoming a demon slayer.

At first, Tanjiro does not trust Giyu, but over time he comes to respect him, as they are both Urokodaki's students and both use Water Breathing.

Later on, Giyu often protects Tanjiro.

The first time they meet after passing the final selection, Agatsuma appears before Tanjiro very scared, Zenitsu is hysterical because of the horrors that happened in the forest.

Soon Zenitsu and Tanjiro become friends and, together with Inosuke, become students of Kyojuro Rengoku. Despite the imminent death of their teacher, they continue to carry out all assignments and hunt demons together. Zenitsu is a good friend who will never speak ill of Tanjiro behind his back.

The first meeting between the protagonist and Inosuke takes place in Kyogai's house. Without much thought, Hashibira attacks Tanjiro, who is protecting the girl from a demon roaming the house. After clearing the house, Hashibira tries to attack Nezuko, as he senses that she is a demon, which provokes Tanjiro, who ultimately loses the fight and passes out for a few minutes. Inosuke continues to try to provoke Tanjiro.

However, Inosuke later realizes that he still needs to work hard to become truly strong, so he stops provoking anyone into pointless fights. Inosuke and Tanjiro both have a poor understanding of city life, unlike Zenitsu. They also get along well afterwards and support each other in difficult times, giving advice or choosing the right words.
