Alexander Volg Zangief (arekusandoru vuorugu zangiefu, romanized: アレクサンドル・ヴォルグ・ザンギエフ, and in Russian: Александр VOLG Зангиев) is a boxer of Russian origin who debuted as an amateur boxer in Japan and later became a featherweight boxer in order to obtain Eiji Date's Japanese champion belt.

Volg is a young adult man, with masculine features and smooth skin, made paler by his Russian features. His hair is somewhat long and well-groomed, with a nice topknot that falls untidily over his face. His eyes are blue, usually wearing short clothes because it gives him more warmth as he is not used to hot climates.

Despite his menacing presence (as described by many) in the ring, Volg is a humble and innocent boy who, as revealed before his fight with Ippo, began working as a boxer in Japan in order to raise money for his ailing mother. He would later reappear in Japan, after returning to Russia and learning that his mother had died, in order to travel to America so he could start over in a "less pleasant" place as he mentions, helping Ippo improve the Dempsey Roll in the process. He is currently studying English, hoping to make a new life for himself in America, starting over as a boxer.
