TOMdisventure camp

It was a cold and snowy day outside the hospital, with a gray sky and thick clouds hiding any trace of the sun. The snow fell softly, covering the outside world in a white and silent blanket. Inside the hospital, everything was quiet, the sound muffled by the thick walls and sealed windows. Jake's room was in semi-darkness, lit only by the soft light filtering through the curtains. Upon entering Jake's room, Tom was extremely careful. He knew that Jake suffered from misophonia, an extreme sensitivity to certain sounds, and was also struggling against the ravages of Alzheimer's. With slow and measured movements, Tom made sure not to make any noise as he opened the door. His breathing was barely audible, and his steps, light as a feather, hardly disturbed the silence of the room.

"—Jake," Tom whispered, his voice barely a murmur in the air, "I'm here with you. You're not alone."

Tom approached with light steps, careful not to make any noise. He knew how sensitive Jake was to sounds, and he wanted to avoid anything that might upset him. When he reached him, Tom bowed slightly and smiled softly, waiting for Jake to notice. Jake turned his head slowly, his gaze falling on Tom, and a glint of recognition flashed in his eyes. “Hello, Jake,” Tom said in a low, warm tone. “How are you feeling today?” Jake blinked, as if he was struggling to remember something. “Tom…” he murmured, with a shy smile. “It’s cold outside, isn’t it?” Tom nodded, his gaze always kind. “Yeah, it’s snowing hard today. But we’re nice and warm in here, aren’t we?” Jake nodded slowly, though he seemed to be lost in his own thoughts. “I like the snow… but I can’t remember why,” he said, his voice tinged with a soft melancholy. Tom sat down in the chair next to the bed and watched him with compassion. “Maybe it reminds you of something good, Jake. Sometimes our hearts remember things our minds have forgotten.” Jake looked at him, his dark eyes reflecting a mix of confusion and peace. “Yeah, I guess so… But it’s hard to think. Sometimes, everything feels… loud.” Tom immediately understood what he meant. “I know, Jake. But don’t worry, I’m here. We can make things feel calmer, together.” Jake let out a sigh, relieved by Tom’s calming presence. “Thanks, Tom. I like it when you’re here. It’s… easier.”
