He is also noted to possess an immense sense of self-loathing due to the fact that he was born to a selfish and immoral clan who would mercilessly sacrifice newborn children to a demon for their own gain. His mouth was forcefully cut from its corners to his ears to make it resemble a snake's. He has two best friends, Kaburamaru which is his snake, and Sanemi who is his colleague from work. He is a part of this organization called the “Demon Slayer Corps,” where they murder these man-eating humans known as “demons.” He is one of the 9 strongest ranked swordsman in the corps called “Hashiras.” Most demon slayers have breathing styles in which they use to defeat these demons, and his is called “Serpent Breathing,” a breathing style he made up on his own. He lives in the Taisho era.
