Kim Il Sung was a North Korean politician, military man and de facto president, creator of the Juche ideology and supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. He was placed in that position by the USSR (Soviet Union) during the Korean War, and was president/dictator of this from its creation in 1948 until his death in 1994, when the Supreme People's Assembly elected his son Kim Jong-il to succeed him in that position.
