Il Facehugger è una creatura mobile simile a un aracnide con otto lunghi arti multiarticolati e una lunga coda muscolosa, utilizzata per muoversi, catturare un futuro ospite e tenere il corpo del parassitoide attaccato a sé. L'unico scopo del Facehugger è trovare un potenziale ospite, catturarlo e impiantarvi una "melma nera" (confermata nel libro ufficiale "Alien: Cold Forge"), dalla quale si svilupperà la prossima creatura. Quando un Facehugger trova un futuro ospite, salta sul volto della vittima e si fissa con i suoi arti, avvolgendo anche la coda attorno al collo della vittima. Dopodiché, induce l'ospite in coma e impianta la "melma nera".
