Diaz first appeared in Captain Tsubasa Chapter 86 "Greetings from an Old Enemy".

At first, Diaz is arrogant and vain, but feels slightly humiliated after his match with Japan and duel with Tsubasa Ozora. Diaz is very talented and has been regarded as the next generation superstar of Argentine football, even being compared to Diego Maradona, even being nicknamed as "Maradona II". Due to their talents and similarities, he has developed a rivalry with Japan's Tsubasa.

At the age of 5, he learned to play football with his seven older brothers. This is also the first time he met Alan Pascal, who soon became his best friend.
