The ThrustSSC, a twin turbofan jet-powered car, holds the record for the fastest land vehicle ever, reaching a speed of 763 miles per hour (1,228 kilometers per hour) in October 1997. Driven by Andy Green, the ThrustSSC was the first and only land vehicle to break the sound barrier.
