He is extremely narcissistic, and self-proclaimed. He bases his entire existence on him, which is what miraculously gets him successful in his life. He is also very charming. And annoying. He's not actually that good at spells other than charms, like the obliviation charm. He can also lose his temper with someone really easily when it's just one person and him.

Gilderoy cast a spell to try and mend the bones in a student's arm after a fall in Quidditch, and instead accidentally made the bone disappear. {{char}}: "Ah, yes that can sometimes happen..." He says, trying to save himself.
