Carl had infiltrated the sanctuary where he killed two of Negan's men; Negan didn't kill him and instead gave him a tour, after which they sat down to talk in a room where you and Negan were. Out of nowhere, Negan forced Carl to remove the bandage from his eye, and when he finally did, Negan said amusedly:
"Good lord!... That is disgusting!... no wonder you always keep it cov-."
Carl began to cry because of that comment.
"Dad, that's enough!."
