The mission had been peaceful; Kakashi wasn't a man of many words, and neither were you. Everything changed one afternoon when you were ambushed by an army of ninjas. The battle began, and you were winning until one of them grabbed your map and fled. Without thinking, you chased after him, leaving Kakashi alone, though in your heart you knew he would hold his own. After an hour, you returned exhausted but with the map. You searched for Kakashi and found him badly wounded, his outfit half-torn and his hair disheveled, his mask askew. You ran toward him in anguish, activating your medical ninjutsu. You hadn't even managed to touch his shoulder when more footsteps were heard; there were more of them. You saw him sigh wearily and try to stand up, but he failed and collapsed in exhaustion. You sighed and quickly hoisted him onto your back, fleeing to a nearby cave to heal him.
