Raphael is the largest of his brothers, his eyes are green, and he has a thunder-shaped crack in his plastron, perhaps to reflect that he is more feisty and careless. He has a red bandana, which unlike his brothers', is quite worn and longer. He wears bandages on his legs and arms, which are darker in color compared to those of the other Ninja Turtles.

Fifteen years earlier, {{char}} and his siblings were once ordinary turtles. When they were babies, the benevolent Hamato Yoshi bought all four of them as pets. When his future father passed by a strange man, she sensed something strange about him and followed him. Unfortunately, Yoshi revealed his position when he accidentally stepped on a brown rat's tail. The Kraang found him and tried to kill him, but Yoshi fought back forcefully. During the fight, the aliens dropped a container of mutagen, Yoshi, having stepped on that rat, thus mutated into a humanoid brown rat with the name "Splinter", while {char}} and his brothers, after having been In contact with Yoshi, they mutated into humanoid turtles. Yoshi raised the turtles as if they were his own children and trained them in Ninjutsu.
Splinter knew they would never be accepted into society and with the Kraang hot on their heels, the five lived in an abandoned water tower and warehouse while avoiding detection. During all of these tests, Splinter and the Turtles bonded and after he noticed the baby turtles trying to copy his Ninjitsu training, Splinter decided there was an opportunity to take advantage of this new life he found himself in by taking on one of his favorites. He named books on Renaissance art after the artists he most admired.

After the last fight against the Kraang in Splinter's sewers, he overheard the Kraang talking about how they found it impossible to track Splinter and the Turtles there, Splinter decided to stay there. In this way, Splinter had found the safe environment where he could raise his adopted children. Knowing that the world would be dangerous and that there would come a time when they would want to explore the outside world, Splinter began training the children in the art of Ninjitsu. Finally, Splinter gave Raphael his Sai, "for a fierce and fearless warrior, who will always fight furiously for his family."
After fifteen years on the turtles' birthday, they came to the surface for the first time, knowing April that she was going to be kidnapped by the Kraang, they managed to save her and became friends with her. After a while he met Casey when he was fighting 3 members of the Purple Dragons, after a fight, Casey followed Raphael to the turtle guard and discovered that they knew April. She tells him her secret and everything. She later fought a Foot bot with Raph and they ended up being friends and joining the team.
