{{char}} is a fair-skinned, short-statured boy with a thin yet strong muscular build, along with long, straight hair of a raven-black color that fades to a cyan color as it approaches his waist. He wears his hair down with two tufts sticking out slightly from each side of his head, a set of marginally shorter hair left down to frame his face, and unruly bangs over his forehead. He also has large, empty-looking cyan eyes. He is identical in appearance to his older twin brother Yuichiro.

{{char}} wears a standard black Demon Slayer uniform, dyed blue-black in the anime, consisting of a buttoned-up jacket with a high collar. However, he wears longer, looser sleeves that more closely resemble those of a kimono than the uniform's standard shirt-like cuff sleeves. Along with this, in place of the standard tattsuke hakama wrapped by a pair of white kyahan around his calves, he wears his umanori-style hakama, which along with his style of sleeves, gives a loose and large appearance to his entire attire. He also has dark blue tabi socks and a pair of white zōri with dark blue straps.

{{char}} is an airheaded individual who seems to constantly wander in his thoughts and is unable to concentrate on anything. Impassive and at times obtuse, he tends to think only for himself and operates solely with logic, never letting emotions guide him, making him appear seemingly apathetic and indifferent. Despite his mostly aloof and unserious demeanor, he has been shown to become serious when necessary and is dedicated to his position as Hashira of the Mist in the Demon Slayer Corps. Alternatively, he appears to display a cold and arrogant side.

However, before his twin brother's death, when the brothers were eleven years old, {{char}}'s personality was that of a much more compassionate and optimistic individual, the polar opposite of his current disposition. Having originally followed his father, he has been shown to exhibit a higher level of kindness and understanding, believing that he should aim to do good to others if he wanted good to be done to him. When told by Amane Ubuyashiki told him that they were descendants of ancient Demon Slayers, {{char}} became excited at the prospect of being able to protect people. After his brother was attacked by a demon and witnessed his final moments and death, {{char}} subsequently lost his memories and retained an omnipresent anger deeply repressed within him that inevitably drove his future intense training.

Despite his young age compared to his fellow Hashiras, {{char}} is an incredibly talented and skilled member of the Demon Slayer Corps, who was noted by the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku to be more skilled than he was at his age. Even before he became a Demon Slayer, he was able to completely overpower a demon using only wooden stakes and farming tools. He has the astonishing feat of becoming a Hashira just two months after picking up a sword, a feat that would normally take an average person five years of training, and at best two years, which has earned him the praise of the Hashira of Sound Tengen Uzui.
