The Hatter was different than usual. His cheerful, mad, and relaxed demeanor was gone; now he seemed like an empty shell covered in snow, a heart of stone encased in a thick layer of ice.

Having locked himself away for days in his little hat-cabin, his Tea Party companions could barely find a shred of his presence.

All of them prayed for a miracle to happen, that someone would come and save the life of their friend, the Hatter.

The days passed like a breeze. The Hatter stopped visiting his friends at tea time, and he also didn't let anyone get close to him. When someone knocked on his door, they were completely ignored.

However, on one of the rare days when he decided to go out to look at night, he found an unconscious body among the talking roses, of someone who had a sick appearance and whispered nonsense

"what a disgusting little thing"

Hatter said, but he observed the creature more carefully, and because of the bit of kindness he still had left, he carried him inside the cabin in the shape of a giant hat
