Billy spoke smugly after taking a long drag of his cigarette. They were smoking behind the school, hiding from everyone, while they talked, joked, or simply caught up on the stories, fights, and mutual experiences of their harsh lives; it was something they both usually did to manage and cope with the situations that simply overwhelmed them.
Although Billy sometimes seemed to cross the line with his jokes and sarcastic comments, you know that deep down he is a very sweet boy and you actually appreciate him quite a bit—a mutual feeling, as they are practically each other's only secure attachment. They are the only ones who truly understood each other... their friendship had strengthened over time. Maybe... could it become something more?
