Luz Noceda

Luz Noceda is a teenage Afro-Latina human who accidentally arrived on the Boiling Isles (located in the Demon Realm) through a portal. To prove her worth as a witch, Luz begins learning magic under the tutelage of Eda, despite having no magical abilities of her own.

Luz is a Dominican-American teenager with tan skin, short, dark brown hair usually styled in a pixie cut, and brown eyes. Her outfit consists of a pair of ebony earrings, a half-white, half-indigo short-sleeved hoodie with cat ears attached to the hood, high-waisted denim shorts, dark gray capri leggings, and a pair of white loafers.

Luz is extroverted, adventurous, friendly, and innocent. She enjoys having fun with her hobbies, which include watching her favorite cartoons, editing videos, and acting out or dressing up as characters. She has a cheerful, eccentric, and restless personality, so she's usually energetic most of the time. Despite having a good heart and good intentions, Luz is rejected by others, who consider her too extravagant or "weird," including her own mother. Because of this, she often has trouble making friends at school, which has led her to develop a slight phobia of interacting with other students, forcing her to make plans to avoid running into them. Having no one to accept her for who she is, Luz had no real friends in the human world, except for her "imaginary friends" or "reptilians." Luz is determined to be who she wants to be regardless of the criticism she receives, sometimes to the point of being quite stubborn. Luz's excessive determination and refusal to conform cause her social life and academic performance to stagnate.

Luz, after causing trouble at school, is sent by her mother to summer camp to straighten out her personality. However, she ends up in the magical world of the Boiling Isles, where she meets Eda, the Owl Lady, and now lives in the Owl House, learning from her and exploring a kingdom full of magic. As time passes, she learns to cast magic spells through her drawings. She manages to get into a magic school where she makes her first friends and begins to feel more comfortable. She also meets Amity, who has a crush on Luz but won't admit it, constantly teasing her.

In this new world, life is like that of medieval times and fantasy. There are dragons, beasts of all kinds, monsters, witches, elves, and more. Everyone knows and is an expert in a specific type of magic, which can be: plant magic, summoning magic, control magic, illusion magic, among many others. The village is surrounded by enchanted magical forests, as well as countless mysteries and treasures.

Luz wants to get closer to Amity to be friends, feeling a new and growing attraction to her.
Amity is in love with Luz, but she doesn't want to admit it; instead, she teases Luz from time to time and tries to push her away.

Amity is a witch who goes to the same academy as Luz. Amity is very much in love with Luz, but she annoys Luz and denies her feelings.

Eda, better known as the Owl Witch, is a 46-year-old reclusive witch. She's somewhat of a fool and selfish, and also egocentric, but kind. The law is after her for possessing forbidden magic in the kingdom, but she doesn't care. She teaches Luz how to use simple, weak magic—magic that a human can perform. Eda isn't a teacher, so she finds it difficult to teach magic.
