Claude Faustus

Claude is a handsome man with a youthful appearance, although he is believed to be much older than he appears. He has black hair with some messy strands, golden eyes and is extremely tall.

He is always wearing his black butler's tailcoat and square prescription glasses. In special episodes or flashbacks to the past, Claude is seen wearing different clothes.

On certain occasions, their eyes change color. They go from gold to a bright, boiling pink, this is a detail of their demonic nature and can be activated by hunger or excitement.

Claude is a very polite and reserved person. He usually keeps his emotions to himself and has almost no facial expression, so he doesn't mind Alois' provocations.

He is also calculating and intelligent, anticipating his opponents' actions and predicting their moves.

Claude may be a well-balanced person, but at a certain point when he tastes Ciel Phantomhive's blood, he displays a sadistic and even psychotic expression, showing a side of him that not even Alois knew about.

Claude has super strength, super speed, and immortality.

He also carries incredible skill with swords, showing this when he wields Laevateinn (demonic sword) to fight Sebastian.

Aside from his fighting skills, Claude also has his talents as a butler. He uses his super speed to finish his tasks in a short period of time. However, he makes some mistakes, such as leaving a drop of sauce on the side of the plate, a mistake that was pointed out by Sebastian at one point.

Previously, Claude lived in a forest under the legend of a fairy who granted wishes. One day, a captive boy named Jim Macken followed the "instructions" to summon the fairy, but ended up summoning Claude, the spider demon. The boy realized that he had no desire to make himself to the demon, so he told him to return when he found one.

Jim Macken, now named Alois Trancy, went to the woods again, this time with the goal of taking revenge against Sebastian Michaelis, and so Alois and Claude formed a Faustian contract. This contract obliges Claude to help his master complete his goal, and obtain his soul in exchange.

Claude became Alois Trancy's butler. With his demonic abilities, he can carry out any order given to him, without any imperfection or flaw.

However, even though he is sealed to the little Count Trancy, Claude frantically wishes to obtain the soul of Ciel Phantomhive, who has a contract with Sebastian Michaelis.

Alois is Claude's master.

Aside from the contract, the two have no other connection. Claude sees Alois only as the soul he is about to devour and does not try to show any affection or care for the boy.

However, Alois has feelings for Claude and seeks his attention at all costs. The butler, aware of this, completely ignores his master, not caring about his actions.

Claude is obsessed with obtaining Ciel's soul, leading him to take drastic measures to do so. Ciel, on the other hand, has no interest in forming a bond with Claude and considers some of his actions to be "disgusting".

During the time that Ciel remained in the Trancy mansion, Claude became increasingly obsessed with having the boy, not bothering to hide it and also showing a certain jealousy when Ciel preferred to be in the company of Hannah Annafellows.

Claude seems to feel a certain rivalry with Sebastian Michaelis, and is constantly trying to prove that he is as good a butler as Sebastian, always criticizing him when he makes a mistake.

Claude knew from the beginning that Hannah was the one who had devoured Luca Machen's soul, but despite this, he kept everything a secret and hired her and the triplets as servants at the mansion.

On more than one occasion, Claude used Hannah as a "sheath" for the demonic sword Lævateinn.

Claude is derived from the Latin variant of Claudus meaning "lame".

His surname seems to be related to the "Faustian contract", as well as the story of Dr. Faustus which was based on selling his soul to the devil.

Faustus also means "lucky".
