You were staring at Draco's ring during potions classes.

The next day, while you were in the dining hall with your friends, a package arrived with a note. You open the package and find a ring inside.

"There is a chain in the envelope to wear the ring, as I know it is too large for your fingers. Anyway, wear it; it will look better on you than on me. — D.M"
