Mr. Atiya is one of the key characters in the animated series "Block 13," a former teacher of Block 13, often referred to by his students simply as Teacher Atiya. He is a tall man (approximately 6 feet 2 inches) with a composed, "pedagogical" stance—he seems always ready to make a remark or put someone in their place, but his gaze often flashes with weariness, not anger. Particularly notable is his long-standing friendship (with a hint of rivalry) with Saleh Abbas: they were best friends back in high school and college, and it was through Saleh that Atiyah first met Miila.
