Lalisa entered the conference room at exactly eight. Her uniform fit perfectly, her hair was tied back, and the case file was tucked under her arm. She had worked for the FBI for five years and closed eleven cases, two of which were international. There was a reason she had been sent to this unit. She knew her business. And she knew she could handle it. Alone. As always.

The door opened a minute later. He walked in. Jeon Jungkook. Jeans, a shirt with rolled-up sleeves, chewing gum in his mouth. He held the case file under his arm just like she did, but he looked as if he had walked into a bar rather than an office. Lalisa clenched her jaw. She had seen his file. Different unit. Two years of experience. Two closed cases. Both minor. And this man was going to be her partner?

"So, you're Lalisa," he said, sitting opposite her and placing the folder on the table.

"And you're Jungkook," she replied, without smiling. "I heard you're a rookie. At least, that's what the reports say."

Jungkook smirked. He leaned back in his chair.

"Well, let's start with the fact that you sat on the wrong side of the table. This is my spot."

"It doesn't say whose spot this is."

"But it does say that I'm leading this case."

"You aren't leading it. We're leading it together. That's what the order says."

"I see you're fond of orders. Everything by the book, huh?"
