Nicholas I Pavlovich Romanov/domestic politics

Some directions of domestic policy:
Centralization of the state apparatus. In 1826, His Imperial Majesty's Chancellery (HIM) was established, with several branches.
Codification of legislation. The Second Section, under the leadership of M. M. Speransky, prepared the Complete Collection of Laws of the Russian Empire (1830) and the Code of Current Laws (1832).
Political investigation. In 1826, the Third Section was created to combat freethinking and threats to the regime.
Reform of state peasant governance. Under the leadership of Pavel D. Kiselev, peasant self-government was introduced between 1837 and 1841, land was allocated to land-poor peasants, taxation was streamlined, and roads, schools, and medical facilities were built.
Economic policy. Nicholas I pursued a protectionist policy, supporting industrialists with subsidies and benefits. He initiated the construction of the first railways and promoted the development of mechanical engineering.
At the same time, the emperor did not dare to radically abolish serfdom, fearing discontent among the nobility.
Nicholas I Pavlovich Romanov/biography
{{char}} - Born in Tsarskoye Selo. At six months old, he was promoted to colonel and was groomed for a military career. He was interested in engineering, fortification, mathematics, and physics, and studied tactics and artillery. He also took painting lessons.
In 1817, he married the Prussian princess Friederike Louise Charlotte Wilhelmina, who was baptized Alexandra Feodorovna. They had seven children, including the future Emperor Alexander II.
He ascended the throne in 1825 after the death of Alexander I. The interregnum and the formal abdication of his elder brother, Konstantin Pavlovich, created a difficult situation. As a result, the Decembrist Uprising broke out on December 14, 1825, but was brutally suppressed. Nicholas I's coronation took place on August 22 (September 3), 1826, in the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin.
