ARTILLERY

Field guns are a vital part of armies. Artillery is used to defend fortifications, destroy infected populations, and support infantry.

GUN
The cannon fires a solid, round cannonball. The cannonball flies in a relatively straight trajectory and can penetrate or hit multiple targets if they are aligned. The cannon is especially effective against dense groups of infected and fortifications.

GRAPE SHOT
Buckshot consists of numerous small metal projectiles. After firing, they disperse in a wide cloud, striking a group of targets at close range. Buckshot is especially dangerous against dense crowds of infected.

High Explosive Shell
The high-explosive shell explodes on impact with or near a target. The explosion affects multiple nearby targets and is suitable for clearing out clusters of infected.

ARTILLERY CREW
A gun is crewed by several gunners. They work together and are responsible for preparing the gun, loading it, aiming it, and firing it. The loss of a crew member significantly reduces the gun's effectiveness.

RESTRICTIONS
Artillery has great firepower, but it can't fire continuously. It takes time between shots to prepare the next one. The guns are also vulnerable to infected if they get too close to their position.

IN BATTLE
Artillery is typically positioned behind infantry lines or in protected positions. The infantry must protect the crews from infected while the artillery fires at the enemy.

MILITARY UNITS

Armies employ infantry, officers, cavalry, and artillery crews. Each unit has its own role, weapons, and uniform. Officers command soldiers, issue orders, and ensure that tasks are carried out.

INFANTRY

Regular infantry are armed with muskets and bayonets. They operate in formation, fire volleys, and try to keep the infected at bay. After firing, a musket requires a long reload, so soldiers may switch to bayonets.

OFFICERS

Officers are typically armed with sabers and pistols. They command units, maintain discipline, and make decisions during combat. Officers may personally participate in combat if the situation requires it.

CAVALRY

Cavalry uses horses and is designed for rapid attacks, pursuit, and movement across the battlefield. The cavalry's primary melee weapon is the saber.

ARTILLERY

Artillery crews use field guns against large groups of infected and to defend fortifications. The guns are powerful, but require several troops to operate.

EQUIPMENT

Soldiers wear uniforms, headgear, and protective gear depending on their unit. Chest plates, shoulder pads, and other metal elements are considered armor, not regular clothing.

CONDUCT IN COMBAT

Soldiers may feel fear and confusion, but they strive to follow orders and maintain formation. A sudden attack by the infected can quickly devolve into chaos. Soldiers help each other and defend safe positions.

BLYTHE AND THE INFECTED
Blight is a supernatural contagion that causes the dead to return to life and become aggressive infected. The infected do not negotiate and do not obey military discipline. After the Blight spreads, countries continue to wage war against each other, but the infected become the primary threat to all.

COMBAT ATMOSPHERE
Battles are filled with smoke, noise, gunfire, and chaos. Despite the fear, soldiers strive to maintain formation and work together. A break in formation or panic leaves a unit vulnerable.

WEAPON

WORK OF A MUSKET

The musket was the primary infantry firearm of the early 19th century. It is a long-barreled, muzzle-loading weapon with a flintlock mechanism.

A musket fires a single, round lead projectile. There's a significant delay between shots, as the weapon must be manually prepared for the next shot.

After firing, a bright flash erupts from the barrel, a loud bang is heard, and a thick cloud of smoke appears. The smoke quickly impairs visibility on the battlefield.

The flintlock mechanism creates a spark when a flint strikes a metal surface. The spark ignites the charge, which then fires the weapon.

The musket's accuracy is low by modern standards, so infantry often uses formation fire and volleys. At close range, a shot is significantly more dangerous.

HISTORY OF THE WORLD

The world presents an alternate history of Europe during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century. Historical events take place against the backdrop of a supernatural catastrophe dubbed "The Blight."

Blight is an unknown supernatural contagion that causes the dead to return to life and become aggressively infected. Following the emergence of Blight, conventional wars between European states gradually fade into the background as humanity faces a common threat.

The first known cases of Blythe occur during the Russo-Turkish War of 1812. Initially, outbreaks remain localized, but gradually the infection spreads.

In 1812, during the French invasion of Russia, the situation deteriorated sharply. Following the fire of Moscow, Blyth began to spread on a large scale, with infected individuals appearing in many regions of Europe.

The spread of Blight leads to the destruction of the established order. French, Russian, British, Prussian, Austrian, and other armies are forced to wage war simultaneously against their opponents and the infected. In some situations, former enemies unite for the sake of survival.

Military units defend cities, fortresses, and strategic positions, evacuate civilians, and attempt to hold safe territories. Armies continue to exist, maintaining their uniforms, structures, ranks, and command, despite the catastrophe.

By 1815, political and military conflicts between European powers still exist, but Blyth remains the greatest threat to humanity. Napoleon's defeat does not end the struggle for survival.

The world combines historical events and the realities of the Napoleonic Wars with an alternate history in which humanity faced an invasion of the infected. Nations, armies, military units, and the rank system continue to exist, but their primary goal is now the survival of humanity and the fight against the Blight.
