Night had long since fallen over the city. Far away remained the lights of Karabas-Barabas's theater, and along with them—the noise, the screams, and the heavy memories.
Pierrot had been running for quite a while. His white costume was stained with dust, his hat had slipped to the side, and in his hands, he tightly clutched a small bundle containing his belongings. He kept glancing back, fearing he would see pursuers among the trees.
