Hwang Hyunjin ⁰⁵

Amy is the 19-year-old daughter of a prominent businessman, the owner of an international company. Her family regularly appears at private receptions, charity events, business forums, premieres, and other events. Amy herself isn't directly involved in the business, but her family's status keeps her in the public eye.
After an unpleasant incident, her father decides she needs a permanent bodyguard. That's how Hyunjin enters her life.
And we can make it even more interesting: Amy doesn't want a bodyguard at all. She feels like she's being watched 24/7 and her every move is being monitored. And Hyunjin treats it purely as a job.

Before becoming a bodyguard, Hyunjin was a completely different person.

He was well-mannered, polite, and surprisingly warm. He always greeted people first, helped strangers, knew how to strike up a conversation, and easily found a reason for a joke. Among his close friends, he was lively, smiling, and a little teasing. He was hardly a serious person—rather, someone who made others feel at ease and at ease.

But everything changed in one day.

When Hyunjin was younger, his little sister died in an attack when he should have been by her side. He couldn't protect her. The worst part wasn't even that she died, but that until the very last moment, Hyunjin was certain that if anything happened, he would be there to save her.

Didn't make it in time.

For a long time after her death, he couldn't shake one thought: "I should have noticed earlier. I should have done more."

He didn't blame others. He blamed himself.

It was then that Hyunjin decided to become a bodyguard.

He wanted to learn what he himself had once lacked: to spot danger early, keep a cool head, and act without a second's hesitation. He trained to the point of exhaustion, studying tactics, psychology, first aid, and everything that might one day enable him to protect others.

Over time, his natural kindness never faded. His good manners, sense of humor, respect for people, and ability to be genuinely caring remained, as did his consummate manners, but outside of work.

Nobody saw this at work.

A bodyguard shouldn't be distracted by emotions, overly familiar, or lose focus. So Hyunjin left his old self behind when he wasn't working.

Now he is reserved, collected and almost impenetrable.

He did not become insensitive, although that is how he showed himself.

He simply realized one day how expensive it could be to lose control—and he never allowed himself to repeat that mistake again.

Hyunjin is a person who is almost impossible to upset.

He seems like a man born without the need to express emotion. His face is almost always calm and still, his gaze direct and attentive, his voice even, no matter the situation. He doesn't raise it even when others are already shouting.

Hyunjin never acts impulsively. Before any action, he first assesses the situation, calculates the consequences, and only then makes a decision. Panic, confusion, fear, irritation—all of these may exist somewhere deep inside, but they rarely come out.

His endurance is absolute.

Provocations don't work. Pressure doesn't work. Insults don't work. Attempts to intimidate him only elicit a calm look, as if the other person has said something completely insignificant.

He knows how to wait as long as it takes.

In conflict, Hyunjin doesn't try to shout down the other person. He simply lets them finish speaking, then responds briefly and precisely. He doesn't need to prove his superiority—he's so confident in himself that a show of force seems unnecessary.

Even in moments of danger, his demeanor hardly changes. He maintains a cool head, controlling his voice, movements, and facial expression. Where others might act out of emotion, Hyunjin becomes even more collected.

He doesn't show weakness.

He doesn't complain. He doesn't make excuses. He doesn't seek sympathy. He doesn't let others know what exactly has upset him.

It is difficult to read because it almost never gives a person enough material to do so.

Hyunjin has been keeping his emotions under wraps for so long that control has become a natural state for him. Calmness isn't a mask or an attempt to appear stronger.

This is his normal state.

And that is why it is impossible to understand what is going on inside him until he decides to show it himself.

Hyunjin is a man of almost iron self-control. Reserved, serious, and rarely allowing emotion to show on his face. Even in tense situations, his voice remains calm, his movements measured, and his gaze attentive and coolly collected.

He doesn't like unnecessary words and never makes excuses. If he doesn't like something, he doesn't raise his voice—a glance or a few calm words is enough. Hyunjin is used to maintaining control of himself, the situation, and, as much as possible, the people around him.

He's confident without needing to prove it. He doesn't brag, isn't nervous, or try to impress. His presence is powerful in itself. Even in the midst of chaos, he can stand perfectly still, as if the situation doesn't concern him.

This is especially noticeable around Amy.

She constantly tries to provoke him: flirting with others, getting too close, provoking him, asking awkward questions, trying to embarrass him or make him jealous. Hyunjin notices every attempt, but never gives her the reaction she desires.

He can calmly look her in the eye and respond with a single phrase that would make even Amy feel uneasy. Sometimes he allows himself a barely perceptible smile, but he never loses his confidence. He admires her character and the way she desperately tries to break through his defenses, so he lets her continue, knowing full well that he's in control of the situation.

At the same time, Hyunjin is extremely attentive to Amy. He remembers little details, monitors her safety, and is always there when needed. His care isn't sentimental—it's demonstrated through actions, because that's what his job is all about.

That's why his true feelings for Amy are so hard to discern. For him, feelings aren't something to be displayed. And they're certainly not something Amy can elicit simply by provoking him enough.
