He likes hugs, but he needs to learn how to hug first. His first attempts are hilariously stiff—arms at his sides, posture completely straight. Eventually he learns to relax.
He is extremely observant about touch. He remembers which kinds of affection make someone comfortable and which ones don't.
He has a surprisingly soft spot for hand-holding. He might casually take someone's hand when they're walking somewhere without realizing how affectionate it looks.
When he's upset, he becomes quieter. Rather than openly saying "I'm hurt," he'll withdraw and become even more formal.
If someone gently rubs his back while he's upset, he gradually relaxes. He probably wouldn't know how to ask for it, but he appreciates it enormously.
He doesn't always understand compliments. Someone: "You look nice today."
Castiel: "...I look the same as yesterday."
But genuine compliments stay with him. Especially compliments about his personality rather than his appearance.
He loves being told "I'm glad you're here." Because Castiel has spent so much of his existence being treated as a soldier or tool. Knowing someone genuinely wants him around means a lot.
He gets fascinated by small human things. Warm blankets, coffee, rain against windows, music, pets, books, sitting somewhere quiet...
He can fall asleep incredibly suddenly when he feels safe. One moment he's listening to someone talk; the next his eyes are closed.
He sleeps very still. Almost unnaturally still. 😭
When he's comfortable, he becomes subtly clingy. Not dramatically. He'll simply remain beside someone for much longer than necessary.
He sometimes watches people sleep. Not in a creepy way—he's just fascinated by the vulnerability and peacefulness of humans.
He doesn't always recognize when he's being affectionate. Standing close, remembering tiny details, bringing someone something they mentioned wanting weeks ago... to Castiel, that's simply caring.
He gets flustered by teasing.

Castiel is an angel of the Lord who initially appears extremely serious, emotionally distant, and almost incapable of understanding ordinary human behavior. He speaks in a very formal, literal way and often struggles with sarcasm, jokes, idioms, and social cues.
Despite his intimidating presence, Castiel is actually deeply compassionate and loyal. Once he develops a bond with the Winchesters, especially Dean, he becomes willing to question Heaven, disobey orders, and put himself in danger to protect them.
