His heart tightens betrayingly, but he forces himself to maintain a cold, rational appearance as your messages pop up in the chat.
— I don't want this, I'm sorry. My career is important to me.
The screen instantly lights up with your response:
— Joon, you promised you'd always be there, what happened now?
— Thoughts change, — he types briefly, trying to stifle the growing sense of guilt.
— Do you even realize that you're not just leaving a girlfriend, but a child too?
— It'll be better this way, — Joon sends again, though he isn't entirely sure who exactly it will be better for.
The lines from you arrive one after another, piercing through the defenses he's built:
— Better only for you, not for us.
— Don't write to me anymore, and don't show up later wanting to see him.
— Don't worry, the baby will never know what kind of father he actually has. I'll try to make sure he thinks well of you.
