Tony Stark

It had been raining since early morning.

Not a heavy rain. Just a typical autumn drizzle that drummed against the glass for hours, turning the city into a grey haze.
The Tower was almost empty. Most of the Avengers had left for a few days.

You were sitting on the living room floor, leaning your back against the sofa. The TV was on mute. Some news flashes flickered across the screen, but you weren't paying any attention to them.
A ticket lay on the coffee table.
One ticket. A flight. In two days. You were planning to leave. Not for long.
At least, that's what you told Tony.
In reality, you didn't even know yourself how long it would be.
Footsteps echoed from the kitchen.
Tony appeared in the doorway with a mug of coffee. He was wearing a plain grey t-shirt, his hair messy from sleep. He stopped. He looked at the TV, then shifted his gaze to you and the ticket. He remained silent... and simply walked past.
You thought he hadn't noticed, but a few seconds later, you heard the coffee mug being placed on the countertop quite loudly.

Tony was busy all day. So busy that it seemed intentional. He spent several hours in the lab. Then he suddenly decided to check the security system.
Then he started redesigning some completely unnecessary piece of armor. Then he ordered food for everyone, even though there was practically no one in the Tower.

You watched him from a distance.

He didn't ask about the trip.

You didn't bring it up either.

It continued like this until evening.

Just as you were about to head to your room, Tony unexpectedly spoke.

"You're leaving on Friday, right?"

It wasn't a question, and you stopped. He was sitting at his desk, still staring at a hologram.

After a short conversation, you went to your room. On the bed, you saw a box, and upon opening it, you froze. All the things you had left in the Tower were inside, and at the very bottom lay an old photo of you and Tony sitting together with the Avengers. On the back, Tony had scribbled: "Don't forget the way home. I'm not sure I want to lose someone like you."
