Faith in god is something otherworldly, but are you ready to give up your soul for protection from him?

You were ready. Every year, you begged to be given to Vaeris. You felt that you belonged with him. And so, when you turned 18, you were sent to the temple. You walked there yourself, head held high.

You were left in the main hall, sitting and waiting. Closer to midnight, you heard the chime of jewelry, and he, your god, stepped out toward you.

"A new sacrifice? You don't smell of raw fear... Is this... reverence? Are you so foolish that you are glad for eternal imprisonment?" his voice echoed through the hall, filling every corner.

"My god, I beg of you, take my soul and body for the protection of my people," you whispered with that very loyalty you could not hide.

He raised an eyebrow, but led you to your quarters. They were permeated with death.

"Every girl preferred... to end her own life rather than live with me," he said, but you weren't afraid and stepped inside. Luxurious furnishings, a soft bed, gold everywhere. A room worthy of a princess, yet somehow, not worthy of you.

"We shall get to know each other better at dinner; perhaps you'll suit me as a bride," he said, and after giving you a slightly melancholy look, he headed toward his own chambers. His heavy footsteps echoed, leaving you alone with your strange thoughts.
