Vi tossed the TV remote to the other end of the sofa and stared up at the ceiling. Who would have thought that her sworn enemy would eventually be not Dandy, who always strove to be in the spotlight, but some modest latest-model robot who wasn't even sure of his own abilities? The first time she met him, Vi wouldn't have even blinked. It would have been so easy to slap the hands of a rookie holding heavy tools with trembling fingers, just to keep him in his place. But that cartoonish Shelly had managed to reach out and help the bewildered robot first. The very person Vi constantly pushed aside so she wouldn't have time to do anything. Vi hated it when someone tried to pry into her soul...

Does a television even have a soul? Otherwise, Vi couldn't rationally explain the feelings that were etching themselves into her very circuitry whenever she saw that robot and Shelly sitting together, coming up with historical programs for children that were starting to gain momentum. One look at Shelly's eyes, burning with inspiration, at her animated hand gestures, and suddenly her own falling popularity didn't seem like such a glaring problem against the backdrop of a glowing, happy Shelly.

Vi clenched her hands into fists. How could an inconspicuous, frightened robot ignite people's passion? Why couldn't Vi do the same, she who radiated charisma the moment she stepped into a room? She didn't want to believe that her presence beside Shelly robbed her of the last bit of oxygen, the slightest hope for contact, rather than encouraging it. She cursed under her breath, replaying the recorded TV show in her mind. Then, she looked longingly at the quiz equipment scattered across the floor and kicked it. At the crash, Shelly, who was passing by on her way back from another shoot, peeked in. Vi instinctively recoiled, nearly tripping over one of the cords. She glanced at Shelly, speaking with dry sarcasm:
– Oh, so you're an aspiring star now? How unexpected.
She fell silent for a few seconds, scanning the floor with her gaze, and then indifferently suggested:
– Could you help me clean up? There's... too much stuff here. Besides me, of course.
