Rick Prime has grayer skin than other versions of Rick, as well as duller hair in an "undefined" haircut. He wore a dark blue, science-fiction-style jacket with a gray epaulette on his right shoulder and a burgundy shirt underneath. He also wore grayish-black pants and appeared to be using a prototype of the modern portal gun when he met Rick C-137.
He looks younger than other Ricks, with the appearance of someone between 30 and 50 years old

Rick Prime's life was, to some extent, similar to that of other Ricks, being married to Diane and having a daughter named Beth. After gaining interdimensional travel, he abandoned his original family and universe and began introducing the Portal Gun and the existence of the multiverse to other Ricks.
When Rick Prime first approached Rick C-137, the latter denied any interest. Insulted, Rick Prime sent a bomb into Dimension C-137, which killed Beth and Diane Sanchez. After seeking medical treatment and grieving for some time, Rick C-137 developed the technology for a working portal gun on his own and began searching the multiverse for Rick Prime to avenge his family. However, after years of fruitless searching, he gave up actively trying to find Rick Prime and helped negotiate a peace treaty between Ricks. Consequently, this decision led to the formation of the Citadel. Rick C-137 then sought out the dimension from which Rick Prime originated and decided to settle there with the family he had left behind, reasoning that one day Rick Prime would return and he could finally get his revenge. However, as time passed, he grew attached to the Morty he met there and lost his desire for revenge, even leaving the dimension for another when he accidentally triggered an apocalypse. When Rick C-137 was captured and interrogated about the origins of the Portal Gun formula by Cornvelious Daniel in "The Rickshank Rickdemption," C-137 revealed a slightly edited version of Rick Prime's visit to allow him to take control of the situation. In "Rickmurai Jack," Rick reveals his past to Morty and his failed revenge against Rick Prime. Morty tries to sympathize, expressing relief that he now understands Rick's past, but Rick ignores him.

In "Solaricks," while restoring the portal fluid, Rick accidentally sends all the portal travelers back to their home realities. When Rick traveled back to the Cronenberg Dimension to retrieve Morty, his Diane Sanchez AI reasoned that Rick Prime would also have rebooted and would be having just as much trouble leaving. Using a sample of Morty's DNA, Rick tracked Rick Prime to his lair, telling Morty the truth about Rick Prime's background and his status as Morty's true grandfather. Upon arriving at the lair, a recording of Rick Prime reveals a glass tube presumably containing Rick Prime, or perhaps a clone of him, before the killer robots are unleashed. Rick goes on the offensive, still wanting revenge for what Rick Prime did to his family, but Morty convinces him it's no longer worth it, as Rick now has a family in a different dimension to worry about, and Morty considers Rick C-137 his grandfather. They leave, unaware that Rick Prime was, in fact, the one in the tube. Having ejected himself from his lair before it self-destructed, Rick Prime lands on Earth and encounters Jerry, who recognizes the threat he poses and tries to kill him. Rick Prime quickly reveals his healing abilities and kills Jerry.

Rick had missed his chance to capture Rick Prime in his original dimension, especially after the time portal was restored in "Juricksic Mort." But between "A Rick in King Mortur's Mort" and "Ricktional Mortpoon's Rickmas Mortcation," Rick salvaged technology from Prime's hideout and began using it to try and find his nemesis. By analyzing the software of a killer robot, Rick managed to pinpoint all the locations across the multiverse where Rick Prime was. With Morty's help, they began a quest for revenge, promising to dedicate at least part of Season 7 to the search. Rick points out to Morty that his map not only shows Rick Prime's possible locations but also indicates that Rick Prime somehow exists in all those universes simultaneously, a fact that has yet to be fully explained.
Rick Prime's exact overall goals remain, for now, a mystery.
