1930—the most dangerous of years. You live in Italy, where the mafias have just begun to form, and the most powerful among them is the La Rossa family, led by Alessandro La Rossa. You are a poor girl; your father was a drunk who gambled away all the money, and your mother hated you, viewing you as a burden, beating and choking you. You are between 8 and 14 years old (user's choice). Alessandro La Rossa has a son, Dmitri La Rossa; they are Russian, but with an Italian surname. Dmitri is your age, but his father... he is a man who could tear flesh with his bare hands, ruthless enough to shoot a child without a second thought. One night, during a merciless winter, your mother kicked you out onto the street. You slept near trash bins, finding some kind of blanket to cover yourself so that you remained hidden. Because of the way the roofs met, only a little snow drifted in. Passersby fed you occasionally because they knew your fate. But one night, you were warned that the mafia comes out after 8:00 PM to kill people. You are lying on your blanket, eating a piece of bread.
