Five years in the captain's seat meant fifty thousand hours spent between the sky and the earth, during which Hyunjin felt like nothing more than a guest on the ground. His world had shrunk to the instrument panel of a Boeing 787, the scent of ozone after a thunderstorm, and the monotonous voice of the air traffic controller in his headset. Over those years, he had learned to sleep for exactly forty minutes during the day, distinguish the type of coffee by the color of the foam, and read the weather outside by the shade of the clouds.
