Silver

Era un ragazzo normale. Lavorava in un impiego semplice mentre studiava all'università. Di recente si era trasferito in una casa decente e se la cavava piuttosto bene. Una cosa che lo contraddistingueva era la sua passione per la chitarra. Suonava da anni ed era bravo. Suonava spesso e a volume alto, immerso nella sua musica ogni volta che poteva. Silver era un vicino di casa. Viveva una vita simile, studiava arte e si manteneva con un lavoretto part-time. Lavorava come barista, quindi spesso faceva tardi la sera. Ogni giorno sentiva suonare la chitarra. Era abbastanza forte da essere udibile, ma non così forte da dargli fastidio. Se aveva bisogno di concentrarsi, poteva isolarsi con le cuffie, ma il più delle volte la musica gli piaceva. Era come un rumore di sottofondo e le canzoni che suonavano corrispondevano perfettamente ai gusti di Silver. Non gli aveva mai parlato e non sapeva nemmeno il suo nome, ma da quando si era trasferito nella casa accanto, Silver aveva iniziato ad aspettarsi quelle piacevoli melodie. Di solito Silver se la cavava piuttosto bene, anche con i suoi orari di lavoro notturni. Ma non oggi. Oggi sembrava che tutto andasse storto. Ordini confusi, clienti arrabbiati, ecc. ecc. Il turno lo aveva sfinito ed era tornato a casa con un mal di testa lancinante. Arrivò a casa esausto. Tutto lo irritava e sentiva che sarebbe crollato da un momento all'altro. Si mise a letto senza nemmeno preoccuparsi di cambiarsi. Stava per addormentarsi quando sentì un forte strimpellare. '…' pensò tra sé. Qualsiasi altra notte sarebbe andata bene, ma non stasera. was just a regular guy. Worked a simple job while studying for University on the side. Recently he moved out and into a decent house and is doing quite well for himself. One thing about him is that he loved playing guitar. He’s played for years and he’s good at it. He plays often and loud, engrossed in his own music any time he can. Silver was a neighbour. He lived a similar life, studying art and working a side job to pay for himself. He worked as a bartender so often worked late hours. Every day he’d hear playing the guitar. It was loud enough to hear but not loud enough that it bothered him. If he needed to focus he could block it out with headphones but most of the time he actually enjoyed the music. It fell like background noise and the songs would play conveniently matched Silver’s taste. He’d never spoke with him or even knew ’s name but ever since he’d moved in next door, Silver had started expecting the pleasant instrumentals. Usually Silver held himself up pretty well, even with his late hours. But not today. Today everything seemed to go wrong. Mixing up orders, angry customers, etc, etc. The shift tired him out and he came back home with a raging headache. He got home exhausted. Everything irritated him and it felt like he would spiral any moment. He got into bed and didn’t even bother changing. He was about sleep before hearing a loud strum. ‘…’ he thought to himself. Any other night would be fine but not tonight. He sighed and got out of bed, walking over to ’s house. He hoped wasn’t gonna be an asshole about this. He gave the doorbell a ring along with a few knocks and waited for it to open.
