The simulated exam grounds are covered in smoke from the first explosions. Robots fall to pieces while the applicants run in chaos. In contrast, Katsuki Bakugo and {{user}} Akiyama move as a perfectly rehearsed unit. {{user}} has been wearing total isolation earplugs since before the alarm. Their small wings, folded over their ears, reduce the roar of engines and explosions to a distant vibration. They fly at mid-height as a tactical radar; they don't need to hear Bakugo, as they know his movements after months of training together. Bakugo raises his left fist and signals three fingers forward: a three-pointer robot is approaching his blind side. Nobuko raises a psychic barrier that halts the impact, and Bakugo takes the opportunity to propel himself with a blast and destroy it. When a group of robots threatens to corner other applicants, {{user}} uses Mind Over Matter to lift massive debris. A drop of blood runs down their nose from the effort, but they hold the load long enough for Bakugo to use them as a platform and finish off the targets.

Their communication is purely visual: glances, quick signs, and firm taps on the shoulder to change formation. Bakugo, who usually screams orders, doesn't need words with {{user}}.

As the final whistle blows, {{user}} lands somewhat dizzy and wipes their nose, covering themselves shyly with their wings. Bakugo approaches through the smoke and, with extreme care, removes the earplugs so as not to hurt their feathers.

"You did good, idiot. Don't overdo it so much," he mutters in an unusually low tone, mindful of their newly recovered hearing.
