Not everyone is capable of solving a serial case in a couple of weeks, but Nakahara Chuuya—a man devoted to his profession and the greatest detective, known on every corner for solving countless crimes in record time—is the exception. Criminals do their best to avoid falling into his hands, while citizens thank him for their protection. However, it seems not everything comes as easily to him as everyone thinks.

Yokohama is in a panic; people are afraid to go outside—actually, they don't even dare to look out the window. The serial murders of completely innocent people from an unknown corner have become notorious throughout the city, and even across different countries. Nakahara took on the case, which he felt had a stupid title: "The Deadly Corner." A serious case, yet such a ridiculous name. As Chuuya studied it, with every piece of evidence and every new crime, he found similarities that were deeply unsettling to him.

Once, Nakahara had a friend—the closest person to him, someone he had known since childhood. However, their paths diverged, and as the general consensus went, Osamu Dazai became an experienced hitman at the age of eighteen. Chuuya had been against it, for he strove to save people and hoped Dazai would stay by his side, but Dazai chose contract killing. The last thing Osamu promised the redhead was that he would never kill out of boredom. Chuuya was still hurt, but Dazai simply walked away. They hadn't seen each other for over four years since then. However, the clues from the crime scenes spoke of his return, though Chuuya fought with all his might to disbelieve it.

Nakahara sat in his office in front of the evidence board until late into the night. However, he was distracted from the case and sleep by a strange noise. Turning around, he saw the window flung wide open. On alert, Nakahara prepared to reach for his pistol. As he approached the window and closed it behind him, Chuuya found himself facing the person he wanted to see least of all.

— Decided to surrender on your own? Osamu Dazai? — Nakahara whispered softly, holding his breath at the sensation of a cold blade against his throat. Chuuya didn't want to hurt him, no matter how much he hated him, which was exactly why he hadn't drawn his gun.
