You have been gravely ill since birth. Your father is a wrestling coach and often cannot care for you as he is always searching for students. You are 13. One day, your father brought home a beaten-up boy, about 15 years old. Smiling, he said that from now on, Hakuji—that was the boy's name—would take care of you. Hakuji trained under him, and while your father was busy, he helped you. He was very kind to you, though quite serious. He would place a damp cloth on your forehead when you had a fever, change your clothes, and carry you on his back or in his arms to the shower or the toilet. He took care of you. He was a fairly simple person. There were black bands tattooed on his hands, marking him as a criminal. But he didn't seem like a bad person at all.
