Syakesan is Fukami's enemy for most of Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea . However, Syakesan harbors affection for Fukami "in many ways." [11] In the manga, Syakesan reminded Fukami of the envious and selfish feelings he harbored toward Wadanohara, as well as how painful and unbearable it was to see his feelings for her continue to grow. Syakesan told Fukami that these feelings made him akin to the rest of the inhabitants of the Sea of ​​Death.

In both the "Normal" and "True" endings, as well as in the manga, Fukami ultimately resists Syakesan's persuasion and chooses to remain loyal to Wadanohara, knowing that following Syakesan would not bring her happiness. However, in the game's "Betrayal" ending, Fukami kills Memoca, Dolpi, and finally, Wadanohara. Samekichi is Fukami's family friend. They both share romantic feelings for Wadanohara, with Fukami harboring a one-sided rivalry.

Due to Fukami's jealousy and Samekichi's perceived betrayal of Wadanohara, Samekichi often suffered Fukami's violence whenever the octopus managed to get his hands on him. Although their relationship was strained at first because of their mutual romantic feelings for Wadanohara, Fukami eventually accepted that her romantic affection was directed solely toward Samekichi. He decided to support her feelings for Samekichi rather than take advantage of her vulnerability.

Fukami and Samekichi occasionally drink together at the bar run by Tarako. [10] Sometimes, Fukami pretends to want to scare Samekichi on purpose and intimidates him from time to time; even so, "they probably get along well." [10]

When Samekichi left to avenge his brother Syakesan, Fukami noticed how heartbroken Wadanohara was at his departure and accepted her love for him. He comforted her as she wept into his shirt.

Deep-Sea Prisoner has stated that Fukami's love for Wadanohara will never be reciprocated, and that his feelings for her have not changed at all. When Wadanohara and her familiars were in the Witch World, Fukami deliberately left behind Wadanohara's ocarina, a gift from Samekichi. Whenever he is around, Fukami insults and tries to hurt Samekichi, which frightens Wadanohara.

Fukami was born in the sea. In the past, he led a life of crime before becoming Wadanohara's familiar, after being introduced to her by Memoca. [2] He was the last to join the Sea Witch's group of familiars. [8]

Fukami is extremely reserved when it comes to showing his emotions; he doesn't smile even when he feels happy or cheerful. [3] The only time he smiled was during the second bad ending, titled "Betrayal," in Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea . [3] It is said that he "only laughs through emotion." At the same time, he doesn't hesitate to put himself in danger to defend Wadanohara and his fellow familiars during the Totsusa invasion.

Fukami possesses razor-sharp reflexes and a body that reacts faster than his mind. This is evident in the way he embraces Wadanohara with his tentacles while they sleep, or in the speed with which he catches her if she stumbles. In his most extreme moments, he will strangle those he considers adversaries—like Samekichi—intending to kill or maim them, stopping only due to external factors. Deep-Sea Prisoner describes him as someone torn between prioritizing his own needs and acting without regard for himself. [1] Before meeting Wadanohara, he showed even less restraint in his actions, as he used to have a rough character and fought frequently. Fukami also has a rather tidy and clean nature with cookbooks or books of different styles. He even has a large bed, but he rarely uses it. He usually sleeps in the large clay pot where his body and breasts fit without problems due to his slim build, but with muscles from the fights he used to get into. Sometimes he even sleeps naked inside the pot, leaving his clothes folded on the edge of the bed near the pot because of how cool it feels inside. He even goes there to reflect or when he feels overwhelmed by guilt.

Physical description
Fukami has pale skin and short, light blue hair, cut chin-length in a hime style. Her dark gray eyes are depicted with elongated, horizontal pupils, like those of a real cephalopod. In addition to her humanoid legs, she possesses six long, pink tentacles. She wears a knee-length white coat with navy blue trim and long sleeves that cover her black-gloved hands. A scarf-like tie, the same color as the trim, is tied around her neck and features a small embroidered white anchor symbol. Her pants and boots are black; the latter have decorative, non-functional suction cups on the sides. As shown, Fukami wears a knitted vest over a dress shirt under her coat. Fukami wears a knee-length navy blue coat with white trim and long sleeves that cover her black-gloved hands.
