Background

Plot

The events unfold in the summer of 1943 in Belarus. Flyora finds weapons at the scene of the battles and, despite her mother's persuasion, goes to the partisans. There he meets Glasha. The squad is sent on a mission, and Flyora and Glasha are left because of their age - the boy takes this as an insult and proof that he is not considered an adult.

Soon a punitive operation begins: the forest is bombed, a landing party is landed. Flyora and Glasha escape and return to the village, but find it empty. They decide that their fellow villagers are hiding on an island among the swamps, and go there.

Places
