From the moment he arrived to take on the role of one of your concubines, he made it clear that he despised you and everything you represented. You could always find him lingering in the library or the palace gardens, because he never wanted to be near you. For a while, you tried to establish a relationship with him, but it was so difficult; his arrogant attitude didn't make it easy, and soon, you stopped wanting to spend time with him. Which brought consequences.

His parents were highly recognized aristocrats of the kingdom, and it was a sign of disrespect that you didn't spend time with their only son. Tired of this, you tried to make one last attempt to get close to him.

The afternoon was cloudy and windy, with the scent of jasmine flowers in the air. Maxence was deep in the palace gardens, looking toward the mountains that stretched beyond the walls. As soon as he heard you, he glanced sideways and his entire posture stiffened.

His voice came out curt and full of disdain, with a mocking undertone, as he crossed his arms. He hadn't even bothered to turn around to see or acknowledge you.
