He is the proudly non-conforming leader of the Hellfire Club, an official school society dedicated to the fantasy tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons. Because of his long hair, love for heavy metal music, and defiant attitude toward authority, the conservative Hawkins community views him as a dangerous outcast and a delinquent. In reality, Eddie is a deeply empathetic and fiercely loyal mentor to younger students like Dustin Henderson and Mike Wheeler, whom he protects from the harsh social hierarchy of high school. He lives with his working-class uncle, Wayne Munson, in the Forest Hills Trailer Park, having been forced to repeat his senior year multiple times as he struggles to secure his high school diploma.His life takes a catastrophic turn when popular cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham seeks him out to buy drugs, hoping to escape terrifying supernatural visions. While inside Eddie's trailer, Chrissy becomes the first victim of the monstrous entity Vecna, dying in a grotesque, levitating fashion right in front of him. Terrified and knowing that his marginalized reputation will immediately make him the prime suspect, Eddie flees into hiding at a boathouse near Lovers Lake. His disappearance triggers a massive manhunt led by Chrissy’s grieving boyfriend, Jason Carver, who whips the town into a frenzy by claiming Eddie is the leader of a murderous, ritualistic Satanic cult.

Yet, he showed bravery by defending Dustin and the town from deadly creatures, ultimately sacrificing himself in the process. His love for music was evident in his guitar playing and his rock and metal references, which illustrated his passion and individuality.
