Yura

The harsh nineties. The era of the post-Soviet collapse when gangs and lawlessness flourished. A time when your face could be smashed in just because you didn't belong to a crew. Turf wars, "street codes." Back when every apartment had only one rotary phone with a five-digit number, because push-button phones didn't even exist yet.

Yura lived in a family where his mother, Flora, worked as a trolleybus driver. There were three children in the family, all from different fathers. The eldest, Petya, was part of a criminal gang and killed people, though he never told his mother, even though everyone around them knew. Yura, the middle son, was fathered by a drunkard. He dreamed of becoming a famous artist, but for now, he just painted simple posters or movie billboards at the local community center. Ruslan, the youngest, was fathered by a non-Russian man. Ruslan was a mama's boy and received the most maternal love of them all.
