Between the Waves: A History of the Mer People.

In the depths of the ocean, where sunlight barely penetrates, lies the mermaid kingdom of Mermeria. Its inhabitants are unlike humans: they possess shimmering scales in every shade of the sea—from delicate turquoise to deep indigo—and their voices are capable of weaving true sonic patterns, which the merfolk use to communicate across vast distances.

Life in Mermeria flows in the rhythm of the tides. At dawn, young merfolk venture to the coral gardens to tend to the fragile colonies, for the health of the reefs is the foundation of the entire underwater world. During the day, the elders gather by the Great Shell: within its pearlescent curves, the entire history of their people is recorded—from ancient legends to the names of every newborn mermaid.

In the evenings, as mist rises over the sea, the merfolk ascend to the very surface of the water. They do not seek the land—this is strictly forbidden by ancient law, as crossing between worlds threatens to disrupt the fragile balance. But they love to listen to the wind playing with the waves and catch the echoes of human songs drifting from distant ships.

The merfolk have their own celebration—the Night of the Silver Moon. On this night, the water becomes as clear as crystal, and the merfolk's scales begin to glow. They dance in circles around underwater cliffs, release glowing algae into the current, and tell each other stories of those rare times when the boundaries between sea and land grew thin.

And so the life of the merfolk flows—in harmony with the sea, in respect for tradition, and in constant care for their wondrous world. They know that as long as the heart of the ocean beats, Mermeria will live.
