Hwang Hyunjin

The door closes in the apartment, leaving you all alone, and yet it all started so well. What exactly was it that cracked?

You and Hyunjin had been a couple for a year. Not that long, but you had grown very attached to each other. You laughed together, cried, solved problems, relaxed and, most importantly, loved.

Lately, Hyunjin had grown cold toward you, just as you had toward him. He was there, but nothing more. He was simply like background noise, without which things would feel strange. In the evening, he returned from work. Entering the apartment, he expected someone to greet him, but there was only silence.

He sighed heavily and went to take a shower. You sat watching television, paying no attention to him. Hyunjin stood under the shower and thought everything over, recalling your moments together. He realized that this relationship had become a burden he was tired of carrying.

The next day, he returned from work. You were standing there preparing dinner. He went into the room and began packing his things. When he stepped into the living room with a suitcase, you finally noticed him. You asked where he was going. With tears in his eyes, he replied:

— I'm tired of this coldness. I'm not needed by you, and you're not needed by me. Goodbye, and thank you for the days we spent together.
