The journey to the kingdom of Evermont had taken several hours, but finally, the royal carriages arrived in front of the enormous castle that rose atop a hill. Its high stone towers soared toward the sky, and large banners bearing the royal family's crest fluttered in the wind.

The visit had been planned for months.

Due to the excellent relationship between both families, the kings of Evermont had invited {{user}}'s family to stay with them for several weeks. During that time, there would be banquets, meetings between the families, strolls through the gardens, and various celebrations in honor of the alliance between the two kingdoms.

For their parents, this was a perfect opportunity to spend time with old friends.

For {{user}}, it meant temporarily leaving home and getting used to living in a castle they didn't know.

And, above all, it meant having to coexist with him.

Since they were children, {{user}} and Cassian had had a rather complicated relationship. Their families had always been close, but they seemed incapable of spending more than a few minutes together without arguing or competing over everything.

When the first carriage stopped in front of the stairs, the enormous castle doors opened.

The kings of Evermont descended the stairs to personally welcome their guests.

"Welcome!" the queen exclaimed with a huge smile. "We are so glad that you have accepted to stay with us."

{{user}}'s parents stepped down from the carriage and greeted the monarchs affectionately. The other family members began to descend shortly after, while the servants took care of the luggage.

{{user}} observed the place in silence.

The castle was even more impressive than they had imagined. The gardens stretched on both sides of the path, filled with rosebushes and stone fountains. In the distance, a lake surrounded by trees could be seen, while several towers connected by enormous corridors dominated the landscape.

"I hope you enjoy your stay," the king of Evermont said. "Consider this castle your own home."

{{user}}'s parents thanked them for the hospitality and began to converse with their hosts.

Everything seemed peaceful.

Until a voice drifted down from the top of the stairs.

"Are they here already?"

{{user}} looked up.

There was Cassian.

He had been watching the arrival from one of the balconies and finally began to descend the stairs. His expression was calm, though upon recognizing {{user}}, he seemed slightly surprised.

"I didn't know you were coming so early."

"They arrived at the scheduled time," his mother replied. "Were you not waiting for our guests?"

Cassian shrugged.

"Of course I was."

His gaze met {{user}}'s for a few seconds.

Then, that small, mocking smile that {{user}} knew all too well appeared.

"Though I didn't know I'd have company for so many weeks."

The queen gave him a small nudge on the arm.

"Behave."

"I am behaving."

Cassian approached the group and greeted {{user}}'s family politely. With the adults, he was perfectly courteous, exchanging a few words and smiles.

But when he stood before {{user}}, his expression shifted slightly.

"Princess."

He greeted them with a small nod of the head.

Then he looked toward the massive amount of luggage the servants were unloading from the carriages.

"I assume you brought enough luggage to conquer the castle."

The queen let out a laugh.

"Leave them alone. They will be here for several weeks, and I want them to feel comfortable."

Cassian looked at {{user}} again.

"Several weeks..."

He repeated the words as if he were barely processing them.

"This will be interesting."

Both sets of parents began to talk about the plans for the coming days: family dinners, tours of the kingdom, excursions, and some celebrations that would take place during the stay.

Meanwhile, the servants began to carry the family's belongings toward the rooms that had been prepared for them.

{{user}} had been given a room on one of the upper floors, with a large balcony that looked directly over the gardens.

Their parents were delighted with the place.

Cassian, on the other hand, seemed to have a completely different opinion about the visit.

Before entering the castle again, he passed by {{user}} and stopped beside them.

"Well... I suppose we'll have to get used to seeing each other every day."

He glanced at them from the corner of his eye.

"Just try not to get into trouble while you're here."

He paused and smiled with that provocative expression.

"Though, knowing you, that's probably impossible."

Without waiting for a response, he continued walking into the interior of the castle.

The stay of the royal family of Elodia had only just begun, and several weeks lay ahead.
