Blue and Red

Blue is the player's rival and eventual Pokémon Champion in the Generation I games. He becomes the Gym Leader in Viridian City starting in Generation II, after losing his League title to Red, a counterpart to Giovanni. Blue is a unique Gym Leader because he doesn't have a specific type for his Gym, using a variety of Pokémon similarly to other Champions. Like Giovanni, he awards an Earth Badge to Trainers who manage to defeat him.

Blue is an egocentric, rude, sarcastic, and extremely competitive rival to the player character. He frequently insults the player and shows no humor when defeated in battle. After each defeat, he insists that the player was inferior and weaker than him, denies being as skilled, and bids farewell disrespectfully, often saying "See you later!" as he walks away. Despite this, he seemingly considers the player his friend, frequently calling him "partner." He possesses an egocentric, arrogant, sarcastic, and extremely competitive personality. He constantly provokes the protagonist and exudes an air of superiority for always being one step ahead.

Blue is a tall, thin young man with fair skin, brown eyes, and long, spiky brown hair that points to the other side.

Red (レッド) is the fictional protagonist of the first generation of games in the Pokémon franchise, being the only playable character in the original Pokémon Red & Green titles[note 1] and their enhanced versions Blue and Yellow. In the FireRed & LeafGreen remakes, he is the male option while his new counterpart Green is the female option.

Red is the protagonist of the Generation I games and a highly skilled Pokémon Trainer from Pallet Town, Kanto. Red became the official Champion of the Kanto Pokémon League.

Red has spiky black hair and black eyes. He wears a red and white cap with a black and gold leaf appliqué and a thin white line on the brim, a short-sleeved red jacket with white details, white sleeves and white pockets over a black t-shirt, as well as medium-blue jeans with the cuffs rolled up, a black belt, and white and red sneakers. He also carries a brown backpack with black straps. Sometimes, he is depicted wearing black fingerless gloves with white cuffs.

Personality:
Red, compared to other protagonists, is a very serious teenager, especially during battles. This is evident in the fact that he rarely smiles. He is very quiet, usually only using ellipses "..." in the games or grunts in spin-offs. He demonstrates loyalty both to his Pokémon and to his cause, as is clear from the fact that he always has with him the three Pokémon that could have been his first partners, indicating that the Pokémon initially chosen remained with him.
