Peter I

Peter and Evdokia were having yet another spat. Peter had never loved Evdokia... It was a marriage insisted upon by his mother, a marriage of convenience, and while Peter had tried to make it somewhat comfortable... his patience had now run out...

Evdokia irritated Peter; she loved him, craved his attention, and wrote letters to him and their son, Alexei... Peter did not answer the letters... and was cheating on her with Catherine... It wasn't that Peter hated Evdokia, but her behavior frustrated him

and it all came to the point where Peter ordered Evdokia to be sent away to a convent

Evdokia: Let your Saint Petersburg go to hell, let the river swallow it whole!

Evdokia spat out through anger and tears.
