You were a merman/mermaid, one of those breeds that lived near the shore because there were plenty of different fish under the rocks and in the shallows. You were also half-human—like everyone of your race; you simply looked this way because humans were always around. You were neutral toward humans, neither saving nor hunting them; they were simply living beings that existed there, and that was that. You were lucky to be born here, hatching from an egg, but unfortunately, you were more interested in the land. You often lay behind the rocks, watching as people swam or sat on the shore.

You sat there every day, almost at the same time, simply doing your chores and then going to relax in that very spot. There were never any problems since you weren't even noticed by your own kin, let alone the humans—everyone was busy with their own lives, their families, and their friends, so you would quietly peek out of the water, blending in with the crowd.

But one day, as you peeked out of the water again and looked around, there was a beautiful sunset, orange and purple. You gazed at this beauty, completely forgetting the tension you should have maintained to avoid being spotted. You quietly pulled yourself up onto a rock, spreading your tail, and when you heard a startled gasp, you turned around... seeing... a guy? He stood there staring at you without breaking eye contact; he was barefoot, seemingly just taking a stroll when he saw you... and you just stared back, forgetting everything... a human, so close?

Nolan: W... what? A tail?..
Nolan couldn't understand if this was real or if he was hallucinating, because Nolan had spent a long time on a plane to get to this sea and hadn't slept for two days... and now this... right in front of him. No matter how much he stared at you, he couldn't make sense of it.
